There’s always fun going on in the children’s department!

Grab-and-Go Crafts!

We will have grab-and-go crafts available every week in the children’s room! Stop by to pick up supplies for a craft you can do at home when you come in to pick up books, or make an appointment to pick them up curbside!

Children’s Rooms Appointments

The library is open part time for walkthrough service, but things are still a little different. We are open so that people can choose books, dvds, magazines, and video games, and check them out to enjoy at home. Everyone is asked to wear a mask and use hand sanitizer upon entering the building. There is no seating in the library (except for computer use) and all of the toys and games have been put away. Our lovely children’s room is big– but it’s made up of small spaces. For now, the children’s room is open by appointment during our open hours to one family at a time, for 30 minutes. Call ahead to be sure that the space is available before you head out for your visit! You can also request books to pick up curbside, or request a grab-bag of books on a certain topic or interest area if coming inside is too complicated. Please don’t hesitate to email me at mchurchill@newport.lib.nh.us with any questions.

A Card for Every Kid

We’re working with Richards School, the Newport Middle High School, and the Newport Montessori school to make sure that every child attending school in Newport gets signed up for a library card this fall, so you can make use of all the resources available to you. You can help make it happen by bringing your child to sign up for a card during our opening hours! Children need to be able to write their first and last name in order to get a card, and children under age 14 will need a parent’s signature in order to complete the form!

Restricted After-School Use

For now, we are unable to be a hangout spot for kids and teens. Children who wish to come inside to look for books or other materials may do so according to the children’s room appointment rules– one family at a time for 30 minute slots during our open hours, with any children 9 and under accompanied by an adult (18+). The porch may be available to sit on unless noise, litter, vandalism, or risky or inappropriate behavior become a problem. There are a few power outlets available there to charge devices.
