Thank you for joining us! You can now log your hours below. Please log your hours by Thursday February 25th so we can announce winners on Friday February 26th!

Join us for the Richards Free Library First Annual Read-A-Thon!

When: Friday, February 19th 5:00 PM through Sunday, February 21st 11:59 PM.

Where: The comfort of your own home!

What: Our first Read-A-Thon! Get a pile of books together, set the weekend aside to read, and track your reading. Keep track of the time you spend reading to earn prizes from the library.

Who: All ages are welcome to participate. We’d love this to be a family bonding weekend or a friendly competition among friends. We’ll have four age groups for prizes: Littles (birth to 6 years old), Middles (7 to 12 years old), Teens (13 to 18 years old), and Adults (19+). You do not need to live in Newport or have a Richards Free Library Card to participate; everyone is welcome!

How: We recommend using a stopwatch (the clock app on your smartphone has one!). Start the watch when you start reading, and stop it when you take a break.

Registration: Fill out the registration form here or at the bottom of this page. Please fill out one registration form for each person participating (for example, if you, your partner, and your 2 children will be reading, please fill out 4 forms, one for each reader). You’re also welcome to call us and we’ll get you registered.

Prizes: In order to be eligible for prizes, you need to fill out the Read-A-Thon Recap form that will be on our website beginning Monday, February 22nd. Simply tell us how many hours you spent reading. You’ll have until Thursday, February 25th at 11:59 PM to fill out the Recap form. You can also call us and we can get the information we need from you over the phone. We’ll announce winners on Friday, February 26th.

Community Goal: We’re aiming to have 250 hours read amongst all our participants. Help us reach this goal!

What Can You Read: Fiction, non-fiction, paper back books, ebooks, audio books, graphic novels, newspapers, magazines, picture books, and comics all count towards reading time! We’d love for you to check out library materials for the weekend. We even have a form on our website, “What Should I Read Next”, if you’d like a library staff member to pick out some books for you! But you are, of course, welcome to read materials you already have at home too.

Call the library at 603-863-3430 or email us at with any questions. Happy reading!
